I joined the design studio Bielke&Yang and type designer Bobby Tannam in the development of the typeface OBOS Sans.
The typeface was designed for Bielke&Yang's 2019 redesign of OBOS-bladet, which I contributed to. This is a magazine distributed to all members of OBOS, the largest cooperative building association in the Nordics.
In Oslo’s architecture, OBOS is synonymous with functionalism. Researching OBOS Sans, we collected archival footage of the capitals facade lettering from OBOS’ founding in 1929 and onwards. We wanted a geometric sans serif with an architectural feel, that refers to the past without feeling dated. That way, the typeface expresses some of the substantial OBOS history, while also looking ahead to match their goal of “building a better future”.
